I personally felt that when Buffy finds out how the First Slayer was made she should have accepted more demon powers herself (in Get it Done if I recall correctly). They could simply have written it to be that it is the Potentials physically near the casting of the spell etc that were the ones activated (the ones actually engaged in stopping the First), but they wanted that visual of "can stand up, will stand up". ![]() I always find it jarring and definitely not something to cheer for.Ĭounterarguments I've seen is that the Potentials had been made targets by the First anyway, so they were safe without their powers, yet, I find this unconvincing. It is played off as a girl power thing, but after 7 years of Buffy largely whinging about her powers and how they prevent her from living a normal life and the burdens of it all. hundreds of girls who did not consent - are all activated. ![]() Something that always bothered me about season 7 (and has been discussed before, but can be again) is how in Chosen we see a dozen girls get the option to become Slayers, but then for the visuals I suppose, we see how literally all Potentials of all ages - i.e. how she punches Giles in Prophecy Girl and goes to the Master on her own. In this thread Buffy kicking a person out of their own home + there was a mention of Buffy in previous seasons being essentially self-sacrificing and generally going alone on dangerous missions (or protecting her friends to the best of her ability, partly by keeping them out of the action), e.g.
